A 35-year-old man from Guelph, Ontario, is facing charges after police say he assaulted three officers while being processed at the Guelph Police Service station on May 15, 2026.
The man was initially arrested at approximately 7:30 p.m. that evening at a residence in the city’s north end following a report of a family dispute. Police arrested the individual at the scene on charges of assault, mischief under $5,000, and theft.
According to police, the man became aggressive while in the station’s cellblock area and struck three officers. None of the officers were injured during the encounter. In addition to his original charges, the man now faces three counts of assaulting police and is set to appear in court on August 7, 2026.
This incident is part of a series of recent reports involving assaults on officers during family dispute calls in Guelph. Data from the Guelph Police Service 2024 Annual Report shows that while total calls for service reached nearly 80,000 in 2024, crimes against the person increased by 10.2 percent compared to the previous year. The service currently maintains a staffing level of 182 actual constables, working within an authorized force of 229.5 positions.
