The Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville is preparing for a month of community celebrations to mark Pride Month this June. On May 19, 2026, the Town announced a series of local activities and initiatives designed to support the 2SLGBTQ+ community and foster inclusion.
The festivities will begin with a Pride Flag Raising ceremony on June 2 at 4 p.m. at the Community Flag Pole located at 2 Park Drive. This tradition dates back to 2022, when the Progress Pride flag was first raised at town hall. Mayor Iain Lovatt, who has presided over these annual ceremonies since they began, continues to emphasize the importance of these events as a symbol of the town’s commitment to recognizing the diverse identities within the community.
Throughout June, residents will see the Clock Tower illuminated as a visible reminder of the town’s dedication to belonging and inclusion. The Town is also promoting Stouffville Proud merchandise shirts, with proceeds directed toward initiatives aimed at creating a more connected and welcoming community. Residents interested in purchasing a shirt are reminded that the order deadline is June 5.
These efforts are supported by the town’s broader Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategy and Action Plan, which involves the work of both the Diversity and Inclusion Working Group and the Indigenous Action Committee. Organizers like Whitchurch-Stouffville Pride Committee member Lisa Ronco have been instrumental in growing these celebrations, which have expanded from flag raisings to include larger community gatherings like the 2024 Pride in the Park event at Memorial Park.
In addition to local programming, residents are invited to participate in the York Pride Festival 2026, which is taking place in nearby Newmarket on June 13. The festival, located at 200 Doug Duncan Drive, will feature a parade and main stage entertainment from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
