The town of Quispamsis, New Brunswick, will officially welcome a new slate of local representatives during a swearing-in ceremony on Monday, May 25, 2026. The event takes place at 6 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Town Hall, marking the formal start of the new council’s term following the municipal election held on May 11.
Mary Schryer will step into the role of mayor after being acclaimed to the position without opposition. Her new role follows the decision of outgoing mayor Libby O’Hara, who announced in February 2026 that she would not seek re-election, concluding approximately 15 years of service in municipal politics.
The upcoming term features a mix of veteran experience and new representation. Six incumbents were successfully re-elected to council: Emil Olsen, Beth Thompson, Kirk Miller, Kerrie Luck, Mike Biggar, and Noah Donovan. They will be joined by the council’s sole newcomer, Doug MacDonald. Residents who are unable to attend the ceremony in person can watch the proceedings via a livestream on the Town of Quispamsis YouTube channel.
The new council is expected to begin its governance duties shortly after the ceremony, with the first regular meeting already set for Tuesday, June 16, 2026. This transition follows a municipal election that saw a 39.8 per cent voter turnout across New Brunswick, with more than 216,000 residents casting ballots.
According to the official event notice, the ceremony will confirm the leadership structure for the town as it moves into this new period of municipal administration.
