The Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in and Yukon University will formalize a new partnership during a ceremony at the Dawson Campus on June 1, 2026. Members of the community are invited to the event, which takes place from 8:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the campus located at 982 Third Ave in Dawson City.
The agreement is a formal memorandum of understanding focused on the implementation of Section 17.7 of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Self-Government Agreement. This section guarantees the First Nation the right to negotiate shared responsibility for the design, delivery, and administration of education programs within their traditional territory.
This partnership builds on recent collaborative efforts between the two organizations, including the January 2026 launch of a 12-month land- and community-based bridging program. That initiative was designed to support learners in pursuing personal, educational, professional, cultural, and artistic goals within a supportive environment.
The university’s Dawson Campus, known as Tr’odëk Hätr’unohtän Zho, will host the signing. The event will feature leadership from both organizations, including Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Chief (Hähkè) Darren Taylor and Yukon University Interim President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Shelagh Rowles.
Those interested in learning more about the ongoing education initiatives led by the First Nation can contact the office of Jody Beaumont, Director of Education, or Ashley Bower-Bramadat, the Hätr’unohtän Zho Manager.
