The Dawson City Music Festival is welcoming award-winning musician and producer Erin Costelo to Dawson City this week. The Halifax-based artist is visiting the community to share her professional expertise with participants of the Sound School program.
Costelo is a recognized triple threat as an artist, songwriter, and producer. She made history in 2017 as the first woman to win the Music Nova Scotia Producer of the Year award, a title she earned again in 2019. Her 2019 album, Sweet Marie, received four Music Nova Scotia Awards, including Recording of the Year, Solo Recording of the Year, Americana Bluegrass Recording of the Year, and Producer of the Year.
Her visit follows the conclusion of the 2026 Sound School, a free 10-week program that ran from March 5 to May 7 at Goldensides Studio. Located at 802 Third Avenue, the facility is a purpose-built digital recording space operated by the local music festival association to help musicians and curious creators build confidence in a professional studio environment.
The festival organization remains a fixture of the community, preparing for its 48th annual event held from July 17 to July 19, 2026. Performances during the summer festival often utilize historic venues like the Palace Grand Theatre, a site originally built in 1899 by showman Arizona Charlie Meadows (the current building is a 1962 reconstruction) and maintained as part of the Dawson Historical Complex National Historic Site.
