Thunder Bay Police Service is investigating human remains found in the Thunder Centre area of Thunder Bay, Ontario, after officers responded to a call for service near Fort William Road and Isabel Street on May 21, 2026. Police said the Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation, and residents have been asked to avoid the area while officers continue their work.
Police said officers were first sent to the area at about 4:30 p.m. on May 21, and a visible police presence remained in the Intercity neighbourhood. The remains were located on May 22 in the Thunder Centre area.
In a May 25, 2026 media update, police said the deceased person has not yet been officially identified and no information can be released until that confirmation is complete. Police also said there is no threat to public safety.
The remains are believed to be those of Richard Graham, 44, who had been missing since July 30, 2024, but police have not confirmed that identity. His family was told on May 22 that a body matching his description had been recovered at the Neebing-McIntyre Floodway.
Police said the remains were found while searchers were looking for Kelsey Anderson, a 36-year-old man from Webequie First Nation who was last seen on May 9, 2026, at the Old Navy store in the Thunder Centre shopping area.
