People in Norway House can now get safety alerts and crime updates sent right to their phone, as the local Manitoba RCMP detachment joins a new messaging pilot that launched on May 21, 2026. The voluntary system, called Rave Mobile Safety, lets residents sign up for text, email, or automated phone call notifications about what’s happening in their own community.
The alerts can include crime watch advisories, news about missing persons, requests for help from the public, traffic or road condition updates, and other urgent need-to-know information. The pilot will run for roughly three months while the RCMP gathers feedback from residents.
“Strong communication is an important part of community safety,” said Cpl. Terry Sundell of RCMP Community Engagement Services. “This new system will help us share important information quickly and directly with residents so they can stay informed and take appropriate action when needed.” Notices are available in English and French, and people can pick how they receive alerts and unsubscribe anytime.
Rave Mobile Safety does not replace calling 911 in an emergency, and the province-wide Alert Ready system will still be used for life-threatening situations. Norway House is one of six Manitoba detachments testing the platform; the others are Thompson, Dauphin/Ste. Rose du Lac, Winnipegosis, Oakbank/Beausejour, and Morris/Emerson.
