Norway House Cree Nation has a new voice on its council, as Tyler Duncan was officially sworn into office on August 5, 2026. Duncan is one of six councillors elected in the March 10 general election, and he will serve a four-year term alongside newly elected Chief Season Roulette.
The swearing-in was confirmed by close friend Josh Giesbrecht in a public post on X/Twitter, where he congratulated Duncan and expressed excitement for the contributions he will bring to the community over the next four years.
Duncan was elected as a councillor in a general election that saw six councillors chosen. He joins Alfred Laugher, Edward Albert, Tim Folster, John Henry, and Christina Mitchell on the seven-member council, which also includes Chief Roulette. Roulette secured the top position in a run-off election on May 1, 2026, defeating former Chief Larson Anderson.
The election process had its challenges. Following the March 10 vote, the initial result for chief was contested, leading to an appeal review and the eventual run-off. During the transition, Deputy Chief Alfred Laugher served as acting chief to maintain governance.
Norway House Cree Nation is one of the largest First Nations in Manitoba, serving approximately 6,900 on-reserve and 2,500 off-reserve members. The newly sworn-in leadership will oversee services including health, education, and social development for the community.
