Owen Sound Police have arrested a 22-year-old man after a stabbing in the city’s downtown on Monday afternoon, May 25, 2026. The incident, which sent a woman to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, happened in a busy area in the 900 block of 2nd Avenue East around 3:15 p.m.
Police say the suspect was being held by witnesses when officers arrived. They arrested the man without incident and seized a knife. The victim was treated by Grey County Paramedic Services and taken to Brightshores Hospital for her injuries.
Devon Desborough of Owen Sound faces three charges: possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assault with a weapon, and assault causing bodily harm. Police held him for a bail hearing on May 26, 2026.
Desborough was already out on bail for other serious charges at the time, police said. In May 2025, he was charged with failing to stop at an accident causing death and dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death in a hit-and-run that killed 19-year-old Rohan O’Donoughue of Owen Sound. A trial on those charges is set to begin November 18, 2026.
Police say they believe the stabbing was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to public safety. The investigation continues.
