People in The Pas and surrounding communities can now sign up for the Tri-Community Triathlon, set for June 20, 2026 at the Kelsey Recreation Centre. The swim-bike-run race returns this year after the 2025 event was called off when wildfires and evacuations swept through northern Manitoba.
Registration is open online at ccnbikes.com, and the recreation centre at 523 Smith Street is taking questions at 204-627-1134. The event is put on by the Kelsey Recreation Centre alongside Discover The Pas OCN, which promotes tourism for the Town of The Pas, Opaskwayak Cree Nation, and the Rural Municipality of Kelsey.
Kids as young as 6 can take part. The Kids of Steel category for ages 6-7 includes a 50-metre swim, a 1.5-kilometre bike ride, and a 500-metre run. The Super-Sprint Triathlon, open to ages 16 and up, covers a 300-metre swim, a 10-kilometre bike course, and a 3-kilometre run. Athlete age groups are decided by how old the racer was on December 31, 2025.
The triathlon is a sign of renewal for the tri-community area. Last spring, more than 100 wildfires burned across Manitoba, forcing a provincial state of emergency and mass evacuations. With the race back on the calendar, organizers are inviting locals to take part in a family-friendly day that celebrates resilience and active living.
