The Edmonton International Raceway in Wetaskiwin kicks off its 58th season this Saturday with a Fan Appreciation Night that brings back a blast-from-the-past price. Admission is just $5 for everyone, down from the usual $20 adult ticket, as gates open at 4:00 p.m. and the first green flag waves at 6:00 p.m.
Located about 72 kilometres south of Edmonton, the track is Western Canada’s only NASCAR-sanctioned stock car oval. Promoter Loretta Thiering says there are plenty of new faces, cars, and attractions lined up for the 2026 campaign. The season opener includes a Meet the Driver autograph session, where fans can get up close with racers from divisions like NASCAR Late Models, NASCAR Thunder Cars, NASCAR Pure Stocks, IMCA Modifieds, Mini Cups, and Baby Grands.
The retro pricing is a nod to a long history that started in 1967 as a clay oval called Sunset Speedway. Paved in 1994 and later renamed, the facility has grown into a venue with seating for over 5,000 spectators. In 2024, it was recognized as Legacy Business of the Year by the local Chamber of Commerce.
Saturday night racing runs weekly from May 30 through September 19, giving Wetaskiwin-area families an affordable evening of motorsport entertainment all summer long.
