Environment Canada has issued a Yellow Rainfall Warning for Fort Saskatchewan and Northern Strathcona County, effective Monday, June 1, 2026. The warning calls for heavy rainfall of 50 to 100 mm, with some areas east of Edmonton possibly seeing up to 150 mm before the storm tapers off.
The rain is expected to fall heavily at times today, accompanied by strong north winds of 40 km/h gusting to 60 km/h. As of late morning, conditions at the Oliver station near Edmonton showed a temperature of 8.8°C with 94% humidity and winds already picking up from the north-northeast.
Rain will become lighter by Tuesday morning, with conditions clearing by Wednesday. Temperatures during the storm will reach a high of only 12°C today, but warmer weather is on the way, with a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 22°C forecast for Thursday.
Residents should prepare for water pooling on roads and in low-lying areas. Environment Canada warns against driving through flooded roadways and urges people living near rivers, creeks, and culverts to watch for washouts. To stay updated on road conditions, the province is directing residents to check 511 Alberta.
The Alberta River Forecast Centre is monitoring stream flow conditions as the storm moves through the region. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has stated her government is ready to assist communities facing flood risk, though current conditions are not expected to reach the severity of the 2013 Alberta floods.
