A 30-year-old man with a history of run-ins with police is back in custody after escaping from officers and then being tracked down with help from the community on May 26.
Jordan Kenneth Beaulieu faces 10 charges after a string of events that began on May 22. Shortly before 5 a.m. that day, officers tried to stop a stolen vehicle. The driver reversed at high speed into a marked police cruiser, leaving the vehicle inoperable and sending an officer to hospital with injuries.
Beaulieu was arrested without incident on May 25 and held for a court appearance the next morning. But before he could appear, he damaged the prisoner cage of a police vehicle and ran off while still in handcuffs.
Residents quickly pointed officers in the right direction, and he was found about 300 to 400 metres from the Manitoba First Nations Police Service detachment in Sandy Bay.
The charges include assault on a police officer causing bodily harm, assault on a police officer with a weapon, flight from a police officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm, and escape lawful custody.
This is not the first time Beaulieu has faced serious charges in the community. In June 2024, he was arrested after a stolen vehicle chase that ended with police seizing a loaded 22-250 rifle and laying multiple weapons charges.
The police service has been under the leadership of Chief Jason Colon since April 14, 2026. He stepped into the role after serving as interim chief following the death of former Chief Doug Palson.
