The Cochrane Public Library is inviting kids and families to spend the summer reading, playing, and crafting without ever leaving town. The TD Summer Reading Club 2026 kicks off on July 2 and runs through August 14, with a wrap-up party set for August 15. The program is completely free and open to children of all ages.
Sessions will be held every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the library, located at 178 Fourth Avenue. This year’s theme, ‘Around the World,’ encourages young readers to explore new cultures, stories, and traditions from around the globe. Each child who joins in receives a reading notebook, stickers, and the chance to earn prizes throughout the summer.
The library has removed all financial barriers to its services by going ‘fee and fine free,’ a move that means families can take part at no cost. Support from Cochrane Kiwanis has helped keep the Summer Reading Club accessible to everyone. Kiwanis President Debbie White said the organization is pleased to back a program that helps children “enhance their literacy and experience the joy of reading in a fun, interactive environment.”
The program mixes reading with hands-on activities like crafts and games, all designed to keep young minds active over the school break. It is offered in both English and French so that more families in the community can join the fun. Families can register ahead of time or simply drop in to take part.
