Dawson City residents and visitors can once again enjoy a dip at the local pool, now open for the 2026 summer season at 392 Fifth Avenue. The Dawson City Swimming Pool reopened in May after being closed for the entire 2025 season, marking the return of a valued community gathering spot during the busy summer months.
The indoor aquatics centre offers something for everyone, with competition-ready lanes for lap swimmers, a family leisure pool, and aquatic fitness equipment. Lifeguards are on duty, and the facility includes showers. It will stay open until September, following the seasonal rhythm of a town that comes alive in May when businesses reopen for the tourist season.
The pool’s return comes as the City of Dawson continues work on a new $63.9 million recreation centre, with construction resuming this month after a winter pause. The Yukon government and the Government of Canada are funding the project, expected to open in 2028. The current Art and Margaret Fry Recreation Centre at 1054 Fourth Avenue remains open during construction, despite ongoing structural challenges caused by thawing permafrost since it was built in 2000.
The pool itself is a separate facility and was always scheduled to reopen in May of this year after its 2025 closure. The City of Dawson operates the pool through its parks and recreation department, and it serves as a key amenity for both locals and the influx of summer tourists.
