Brantford General Hospital will open its newly renovated Emergency Department waiting room and triage areas on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, giving patients a brighter and more private space during what can be a stressful experience. The project took nearly 10 months and is part of a larger overhaul of the Emergency Department on Terrace Hill Street that will nearly double its size by early 2027.
The revamped area includes a larger main waiting room, three private triage rooms, a refreshed patient registration spot, and new equipment and furnishings. Brant Community Healthcare System says the changes are designed to improve patient flow, privacy, and comfort for the more than 50,000 people who visit the Emergency Department each year. Patient volumes are expected to top 70,000 annually by 2030.
Before the doors open, local first responders walked through the space to check safety and accessibility. “Final walkthroughs with Police, EMS, and Fire community partners, Patient and Family Advisors, and Clinical Teams have also been conducted to address safety and accessibility of the newly renovated ED Waiting Room and Triage areas,” the hospital system said.
The project is funded mainly by the Ontario government, which put $28.4 million toward the full $32.4 million Emergency Department renovation. The BCHS Foundation has raised over $8 million from donors to cover the local share and medical equipment. The larger renovation, set to finish in early 2027, will add 7,325 square feet to the current 15,500-square-foot department, giving staff and patients much more room.
The Emergency Department serves Brantford, Brant County, Six Nations of the Grand River, Mississaugas of the Credit First Nations, and surrounding communities from its location at 200 Terrace Hill Street.
