Brantford drivers will need to keep navigating around construction in the downtown core through late August and beyond, as work continues on Icomm Drive and nearby streets. The City of Brantford is doing underground infrastructure work and road construction as part of the Downtown Revitalization Project, with the most recent weekly update showing impacts through at least August 21, 2026.
Icomm Drive is currently closed between Colborne Street and Hill Street, with only one lane open in each direction between Hill Street and Clarence Street South. According to the city’s update, the full closure is expected to stay in place until the end of September.
Starting as early as August 26, crews will make even more changes that could last up to a month. Icomm Drive will close at the eastern casino entrance west of Market Street South, and Hill Street will close at Icomm Drive. Access to the Market Centre Parkade from Hill Street will be maintained via Water Street, and signs will direct drivers to open entrances.
The Downtown Revitalization Project replaces aging underground pipes and utilities with new infrastructure while also improving roads, sidewalks, and traffic flow above ground. Phase 1 of the project started in September 2025 and is set to wrap up by late fall 2026. The work is partly funded by the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario.
Drivers can use Colborne Street, Dalhousie Street, and Clarence Street South as detours, and the city says it is watching traffic patterns and making adjustments as needed. Weekly construction updates are posted on the city’s Road Construction and Lane Closures page.
