The courts at Gobeil Park in Beaumont, Alberta, are getting a much-needed refresh. Starting June 15, 2026, the City will begin resurfacing the aging tennis and pickleball courts, with work expected to wrap up by July 18, weather permitting.
The project comes after the City asked residents what they thought about the planned court line setup and colour contrast. The City of Beaumont received 99 responses, and while most were comfortable with the layout, people wanted clearer lines to tell the two sports apart and better visibility on markings.
The existing surface is old and making it tough for people to play safely. Fresh surfacing will extend how long the courts last and make them safer and more playable for both tennis and pickleball players. For now, the City is keeping the courts shared rather than switching to pickleball-only, because enough residents still use them for tennis.
The resurfacing was part of the 2026 capital budget, which included a line item for “Resurfacing the tennis courts near Gobeil Park.” A stand-alone pickleball facility is still on the City’s capital plan. The City picked a spot and did early design work in 2025, but construction did not get approved in the 2026 budget.
The work at Gobeil Park is set to happen this summer, and court users can expect better surfaces and clearer lines by mid-July.
