A motorcyclist is fighting for his life after a crash in Brantford, Ontario, that police say was caused by an impaired driver. The collision happened just after 8:15 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the intersection of Gilkison Street and Colborne Street West.
According to the Brantford Police Service, officers found the motorcycle rider with serious, life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to the nearest trauma centre for urgent care.
Police say the driver of the car, a 33-year-old Brantford woman, showed clear signs of impairment. She failed a roadside test, and two breath samples taken later both came back over the legal limit.
The woman now faces three charges: operation causing bodily harm, operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration, and dangerous operation causing bodily harm. Colborne Street West was shut down for several hours between Oak Street and Brant Avenue while officers investigated the scene.
This crash is a stark reminder of the dangers of impaired driving, which remains the leading cause of criminal death in Canada. The Brantford Police Service stresses that these tragedies are preventable and have lasting consequences for everyone on the road.
Ontario brought in tougher impaired driving rules on January 1, 2026, doubling the look-back period to 10 years and adding a lifetime licence suspension for drivers convicted of dangerous driving causing death. Police are asking any witnesses or anyone with dashcam video to call 519-756-7050 and mention incident #26-21986.
