Oshawa residents can join Mayor Dan Carter for a community cleanup on Saturday, June 20, at City Hall’s North Parkette, as the city marks Recreation and Parks Month with free activities and a call to spruce up public spaces.
The Mayor’s Cleanup runs from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at 50 Centre St. S., one of the final events led by Carter before his term ends this fall. A second cleanup is scheduled for September 12 at Second Marsh, starting from the McLaughlin Bay Trails Public Parking lot.
Volunteers who sign up through the City of Oshawa will receive gloves, maps, and garbage bags. The city encourages families, neighbours, and community groups to take part.
June is also Recreation and Parks Month, a province-wide push led by Parks and Recreation Ontario to get people active outdoors. Oshawa is offering free drop-in programs all month, including public rollerblading, indoor tennis, squash try-its, fitness classes, and a Pride Swim at Delpark Homes Centre.
Carter announced he will not seek a third term in the October 26 municipal election, making the cleanup one of his last major community events. Ward 2 Councillor Tito-Dante Marimpietri is the only registered mayoral candidate so far.
