Durham Regional Police have arrested a 28-year-old Oshawa man after he allegedly struck a pedestrian with his vehicle and fled the scene on August 6, 2026. Carter William Boyce is facing three charges, including aggravated assault, in connection with the incident near Nonquon Road and Mary Street North.
Police say a black Volkswagen sedan travelling northbound on Nonquon Road left its lane, accelerated into oncoming traffic, and hit a 36-year-old man. The pedestrian suffered critical, life-threatening injuries. He was first taken to a local hospital, then airlifted by Air Ornge to a Toronto-area trauma centre.
The driver did not stop. Officers later found the vehicle parked unoccupied a short distance away. On August 7, at approximately 12:40 a.m., members of the Central East Division Criminal Investigations Branch and the Tactical Support Unit executed a search warrant at a residence in Oshawa and arrested Boyce without incident.
Boyce has been charged with dangerous operation causing bodily harm, aggravated assault, and failing to remain at an accident causing bodily harm. He was held for a bail hearing. Police say the accused and the victim are known to each other and the incident appears to be isolated and targeted.
