Oshawa firefighters were at the Oshawa Centre on Friday, September 4, 2026, collecting donations in support of Muscular Dystrophy Canada and local charities. The annual Boot Toll fundraiser ran from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the shopping centre located at 419 King St W.
Off-duty Oshawa firefighters volunteered their time at the entrances and exits of the mall, accepting cash, credit, and debit card donations from passing shoppers. For those who could not attend, donations can still be sent by e-transfer to [email protected].
The event is organized by the Oshawa Professional Firefighters Association’s benevolent committee, and it is the largest community fundraiser of the year for the association. Through the years, the Oshawa Firefighters Association has raised more than $1 million for Muscular Dystrophy Canada and local charities through this initiative.
The Boot Toll is part of a long-standing national partnership between Canadian firefighters and Muscular Dystrophy Canada. Since 1954, Canadian firefighters have raised more than $103 million for the organization, which supports over 27,000 people across the country living with neuromuscular disorders. The partnership began when a Toronto doctor whose son had a neuromuscular disorder approached firefighters to help raise funds for the newly founded charity.
The annual fundraiser helps provide essential equipment and services for individuals and families affected by muscular dystrophy, while also supporting local charities in the Oshawa community.
