A 13-year-old boy from Ajax, Ont. is facing 15 charges after police seized a firearm and a knife at a hotel in the Westney Road South and Bayly Street West area of Ajax on September 9, 2026.
Officers from the West Division of Durham Regional Police responded to an unknown trouble call at the hotel. They found the teen armed with a knife and arrested him without incident. A search of the property with the force’s K9 unit led to the discovery of a firearm, police said.
The accused was already bound by multiple release orders at the time of his arrest, including a weapons prohibition order. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
Charges include carrying a concealed weapon, unauthorized possession of a restricted firearm, possession of a loaded restricted firearm, unauthorized possession of a prohibited device, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace, possession of a firearm while prohibited, and multiple counts of failing to comply with release orders and probation orders. His identity is protected under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
This incident reflects a troubling trend across Durham Region, where police have reported several arrests of young people in 2026 involving firearms despite existing court-ordered weapon prohibitions.
