Parents in Thompson, Manitoba can now sign their children up for summer camps at the Thompson Regional Community Centre (TRCC). The City of Thompson opened registration on June 13, giving families a chance to plan ahead for school-aged kids during July and August.
The TRCC, located at 226 Mystery Lake Road, is the city’s main indoor recreation spot, with two arenas, a fitness centre, a multi-sport gym, an indoor walking track, and a multi-purpose room. This year, the city is running two types of camps. Traveling Camps will operate out of different elementary schools, giving kids access to school gyms and art rooms for a variety of activities. Specialty Camps are held right at the TRCC, with themed programming and more one-on-one attention.
Summer camp programs run from July 2nd through August 22nd. Parents can register by calling the TRCC front desk at 677-7952 or visiting in person. Online registration is also available through the city’s ActiveNet system, where families can create an account and browse available activities.
John Burrows, the city’s Director of Recreation, oversees the department responsible for the summer camps. The camps are a key part of the recreation department’s offerings, giving kids a safe and active place to go while school is out.
