The County of Barrhead is asking residents to weigh in on the future of 85 public green spaces, with an online survey now open and a virtual information session set for June 23.
County council approved the public engagement plan on June 2, launching a process that will help decide how these parcels of land, which cover everything from wooded areas to potential recreation spots, will be used in the years ahead. The survey runs until August 9, 2026, and paper copies are available at the County office for those without internet access.
The virtual information session is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on June 23 via Zoom. Dawn Fedorvich, Director of Rural Development for the County of Barrhead, is leading the effort. Residents can drop in to learn more about the project and share their thoughts directly.
The county plans to put each green space into one of three categories: Biodiversity, for areas that need protection and should be left alone; Hazard Mitigation, where the land can help reduce risks like flooding; and Social, for sites that can be used for hiking, birdwatching, snowshoeing, or simply relaxing. The survey asks residents which green spaces they use now, what they do there, and what improvements they would like to see, such as walking trails, benches, or garbage cans.
After the engagement period closes, a feedback report will go to council to help decide next steps. More details and the survey link are available on the County of Barrhead website.
