The City of Steinbach is closing several downtown streets starting Thursday, June 18 to make way for the annual Summer in the City festival. Portions of Main Street, Reimer Avenue, and Lumber Avenue will be affected at different times through Sunday, June 21, as the community comes together for three days of music, food, and family fun.
Reimer Avenue from First Street to Elmdale Street will be the first to close, starting at 7am on Thursday to allow setup of the midway. That stretch stays closed until midnight Sunday. Then at 6pm Thursday, Main Street from Friesen Avenue to Barkman Avenue closes as well. Drivers are reminded that all vehicles must be off that part of Main Street by 6pm sharp.
On Friday, June 19, Lumber Avenue from First Street to Elmdale Street will close at 7am, also until midnight Sunday. A short section of Lumber Avenue between First and Main will stay open for local traffic only. Saturday brings an additional closure, with Main Street shut down from Brandt Street (PTH 12) to Friesen Avenue between 10am and 6pm.
This year’s festival features Canadian country artist Owen Riegling as the headline performer on Friday evening. The event fills downtown with live entertainment, food vendors, and activities for all ages.
Drivers should plan to use alternate routes during the closures.
