People in Stouffville have just six days left to share their thoughts on the Town’s draft plan to remove barriers and improve access for residents with disabilities. The draft 2026-2030 Accessibility Plan is open for public comments until June 24, 2026, and the Town of Whitchurch-Stouffville wants to hear from the community before finalizing the document.
The plan outlines the policies and actions the Town will take over the next four years to create a more inclusive community, following the requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. It covers everything from customer service and communications to parks, facilities, and employment, building on the previous plan that ran from 2020 to 2025.
Residents can view the draft and submit feedback online at Cometogetherws.ca, or they can email comments to Town staff. Anyone needing an alternative format or communication support can request one. The Town offers a free translation service in more than 240 languages, assistive devices, and adapted recreation programming.
Earlier this year, in January 2026, the Town held a community survey and three in-person consultation sessions to identify barriers and set priorities. That input helped shape the draft, and now residents have another chance to say what they think is working, where gaps remain, and what should be prioritized.
The Town’s Accessibility Advisory Committee, made up of one Council member and five public members, will review all the feedback before the plan is finalized and presented to Council for approval. The final plan will guide how the municipality prevents and reduces barriers for people of all abilities across its services, programs, and public spaces.
