Barrhead residents can now weigh in on what programs and services they want from their local library, as the Barrhead Public Library has launched a community survey that runs through the All-Wheel Park celebration on July 17, 2026.
The Barrhead Community Services & Library Survey takes only three to five minutes and aims to understand how people use the library and other local organizations. Those who complete it can leave their name and phone number to be entered into a draw for a $300 co-op gift card, which will be awarded at the celebration.
Library director Lindsey Juke Turnbull, who started in the role on June 2, 2025, said the feedback is critical as the library works to modernize its services. Turnbull previously spent 15 years at Edmonton Public Library and holds a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of Alberta.
The library, located inside Barrhead Elementary School at 5103-53 Avenue, serves both students and the general public. In November 2025, the County of Barrhead unanimously approved a nearly 20 per cent funding increase for the library, raising its per capita contribution to $29 for a total of $177,933 based on the 2021 census. The overall 2026 budget sits at $452,518, with $20,000 set aside to replace outdated non-fiction books that are in poor condition.
The survey is part of a broader push to refresh the library’s offerings after former director Elaine Dickie retired in 2025 following 25 years of service. Turnbull said the results will directly influence future programming, from children’s activities to adult learning opportunities, and will help the library make the most of its unique dual-purpose space.
Residents can pick up a paper copy of the survey at the library or fill it out online. The winner of the gift card must be able to pick it up in person from the Barrhead Public Library after the July 17 draw.
