Waterloo, Ontario, is shaking off Monday morning’s clouds as sunny skies return for much of the week, though Environment Canada is warning residents about very high UV levels.
As of early afternoon on June 22, conditions at the Region of Waterloo International Airport were still cloudy with a temperature of 18.3°C, but the Environment Canada forecast calls for clearing by this afternoon. The high is expected to reach 22°C.
Tuesday looks even brighter, with mainly sunny skies and a high of 24°C. That warmth comes with a catch: the UV index is forecast to hit 8 on both Monday and Tuesday, which Environment Canada rates as very high. At that level, unprotected skin can burn quickly.
Experts say the sun’s rays are strongest between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., especially in southern Ontario, where UV levels are the highest in the country. Residents heading outside are urged to use sunscreen, wear a hat, and limit time in direct sunlight during those peak hours.
Thursday brings a 60 percent chance of showers or thunderstorms, with a high around 22°C. The unsettled weather should clear out by Friday, setting up a pleasant weekend. Saturday and Sunday are expected to see a mix of sun and cloud with highs of 24°C and 26°C.
