The Thunder Bay Public Library has launched its Summer 2026 Connect newsletter, packed with free programming for all ages from July through August. Residents can pick up printed copies at any of the four library branches or read it online to plan their summer around new and returning events, including the popular TD Summer Reading Club, expanded hands-on discovery activities, and a big anniversary party for one of the city’s most loved library buildings.
The TD Summer Reading Club returns from June 29 to August 14 and is open to children ages 0 to 12 with free registration. There is something for everyone, including preschoolers and their families, with registration open right now.
Families can also try the Discovery Club, a self-guided STEAM exploration program now available across all four branches. For those who enjoyed the interactive Game On! projector at the Mary JL Black Library, the system is now also set up at Waverley Library on the north side so more kids can drop in and play.
“Everything we do at the Thunder Bay Public Library is made possible by you: our patrons, partners, donors, and volunteers,” said Head Librarian Ruth Hamlin-Douglas in the newsletter. “We truly appreciate the trust you place in us to provide collections, programming, and a community living room.”
Meanwhile, Waverley Library marks its 75th anniversary this year with a celebration planned for Saturday, August 1 in Connaught Square. The milestone comes as the branch wraps up work on main floor washrooms, the first such accessible facilities in the building’s history. Crews are through the noisiest part of the project, and the library says the update will make the space more welcoming for everyone.
The newsletter also highlights that residents can borrow passes with their library card to local attractions, including Fort William Historical Park, the Thunder Bay Museum, Ontario Parks, the Thunder Bay Art Gallery, and the Lakehead Region Conservation Authority. The Summer 2026 Connect newsletter is available now online and at all four branches.
