Owen Sound police seized 36 grams of fentanyl and more than $7,000 in cash during a search on June 25, 2026, at a home in the 900 block of 2nd Avenue East, resulting in charges against a 45-year-old woman and a 73-year-old man from the city.
The fentanyl, with an estimated street value of about $14,800, was found when members of the Owen Sound Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit and Criminal Investigations Branch executed the warrant. Both residents now face three counts each: possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of crime proceeds over $5,000.
Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Owen Sound.
This seizure is part of a broader push by local police to curb drug trafficking in the city. Earlier in 2026, officers made multiple arrests in downtown Owen Sound, including eight people taken into custody during a focused initiative in late May that also turned up suspected fentanyl and crystal methamphetamine.
While this arrest highlights ongoing enforcement, the Grey-Bruce region has seen encouraging signs in the fight against opioid-related harm. In 2025, opioid overdoses dropped to 83 from 215 the year before, and opioid-related deaths fell from 26 to 6, a 77 per cent reduction.
