Guelph General Hospital released its 2025/26 Annual Report on June 24, celebrating 150 years of serving Guelph and Wellington County while also looking ahead at what is coming for local health care. The report, themed “The next 150 years of caring for Guelph‑Wellington,” gives residents a public account of how the hospital is performing and what changes they can expect.
The 2025/26 Annual Report points to a year of transformation. Construction finished on the new Speedvale Campus in February 2026, and the Diagnostic Imaging Centre opened on March 2. That centre added a second MRI machine, giving more people quicker access to scans without having to travel outside the community.
The hospital also celebrated achievements in quality and safety. In November 2025, it received Accreditation with Exemplary Standing from Accreditation Canada, the highest ranking possible, after a week-long onsite assessment. Another new effort is the P.A.R.T.Y. Program, which stands for Prevent Alcohol and Risk-Related Trauma in Youth. The program is meant to reduce risky behaviour among young people by showing them the real consequences of traumatic injuries.
The annual report lands as the hospital continues to deal with crowded conditions. Guelph General Hospital has 182 beds and serves about 200,000 people, but its occupancy rate is consistently over 105 per cent. A redevelopment proposal was sent to the Ministry of Health in July 2023, and the hospital is waiting for approval to move to the next stage of planning. Population forecasts show the area could see 126,000 new residents by 2051, which would add even more strain without more space and services.
The hospital began in 1875 as a 12‑bed facility after residents raised $3,046 to buy land on Delhi Street, where it still stands. Now it has more than 1,700 staff and over 400 physicians, midwives, and dentists. The Foundation of Guelph General Hospital, which started in 1987, plays a key role in funding equipment and upgrades, with the community committing $8 million in pledges toward the Speedvale Campus as of March 2025.
“As GGH celebrates its 150th anniversary, this report reflects both how far the hospital has come and where it is going. We remain deeply grateful to the people and partners who make the hospital’s progress possible,” said Terry Campbell, Chair of the Board of Directors.
