A new escape room experience is coming to the Fort Heritage Precinct in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta this August, giving visitors a chance to step back in time and break a horse thief out of a North West Mounted Police fort.
Called “Escape at the Fort,” the 90-minute event runs on weekend evenings at 7:00pm on August 13, 14, 20, and 21. Groups of two to five people work together to follow clues and find a spare set of keys before time runs out. The storyline casts participants as accomplices trying to free a friend in custody.
The experience is designed for ages 12 and up, and tickets are $25 per person including GST. That is the confirmed price, the official Fort Heritage Precinct program page states, correcting earlier reported information. Booking is available through the Microsoft Bookings portal linked on the site, and inquiries can be directed to 780-998-1783.
The Fort Heritage Precinct is a municipally operated museum and historic site that spans 27 acres in downtown Fort Saskatchewan. It was founded as a North West Mounted Police outpost in 1875 and now includes a replica of the original fort, a 1905 railway station, and the 1937 Warden’s Residence which once served Alberta’s provincial jail. A 1909 courthouse on the grounds further highlights the area’s long history in law enforcement.
“Jail break at the fort!” the event’s description reads. “Your accomplice in horse thievery has been apprehended by the Northwest Mounted Police and you’re determined to help them escape custody. Thankfully, you’ve found a letter that you believe can lead you to a spare set of keys.”
The escape room is a new addition for 2026 and builds on the precinct’s regular calendar of seasonal events and educational programming. Standard daytime admission to the site is separate, with adult tickets at $10 and families at $26.50, but the evening escape experience is a standalone event.
