Beaumont City Council has given the green light to a new four-year plan that sets out how the city will handle its rapid growth while trying to make services easier to use and the community safer. Council approved the 2026-2030 strategic plan, called Strengthening Our Community, Together, on June 23. The plan is built around three main promises: putting residents first when it comes to city services, supporting community safety and well-being, and managing growth in a way that makes sense for Beaumont.
Mayor Lisa Vanderkwaak said the plan came straight from conversations with residents. “This plan was built on what we heard during the 2025 election and since taking office,” she said. “We listened to your hopes, your ideas, and your concerns. What you told us shaped every page of this plan.”
Under the first commitment, the city will strengthen enforcement of its Community Standards Bylaw and move permit applications online, making it simpler for homeowners and builders to get approvals. The second commitment focuses on safety, with council looking into bringing back the School Resource Officer program, which used to place a police officer in local schools. Council also plans to keep pushing for more health care services in the community and to make sure funding stays in place for municipal enforcement, fire services, and the RCMP.
On the growth side, the city will update its Municipal Development Plan and Land Use Bylaw and work harder to get public input before projects move ahead. The plan also backs the Innovation Park and the Alberta Motor Transport Association Safety Campus, which will be the first facility of its kind in Canada for commercial transportation and law enforcement training.
Beaumont has been growing fast, adding 22 per cent more people between 2019 and 2024 to reach 26,305 residents in 2025. If the trend continues, the city expects to hit roughly 30,000 residents by 2030. As part of the push to bring the plan directly to residents, council members will be at the Canada Day event at Four Seasons Park on July 1 to talk about what is ahead.
