Sandy Bay, Manitoba is under a heavy rainfall warning as a major weather system moves into the region, bringing the risk of thunderstorms and localized flooding through the start of the week.
Environment Canada issued the alert Monday afternoon, June 29, 2026, warning that 35 to 90 millimetres of rain could fall before conditions ease on Tuesday. Some areas could see up to 150 millimetres.
The warning covers the R.M. of Alonsa, including Sandy Bay and Ebb and Flow First Nation. The heaviest rain is expected overnight Monday, with 50 to 70 millimetres possible along with thunderstorms. Winds will pick up, shifting from east to west at 30 km/h.
Tuesday will stay wet, with another 10 to 20 millimetres of rain and a risk of afternoon thunderstorms. Winds could gust up to 70 km/h, and the temperature is expected to reach 22 C, feeling like 25 with the humidity.
Officials are asking residents to be ready for flooded roads, power outages, and property damage. A tornado watch is also in place for other parts of southern Manitoba through Monday evening, with the highest risk after 4 p.m.
Conditions are expected to improve as the week goes on. Saturday still carries a chance of showers and a high of 23 C, but Sunday is looking sunny and 25 C.
