The Town of Tillsonburg is looking to sell some of its land on West Town Line to make way for new homes, while keeping part of it for a future playground. Town council will decide whether to declare the property surplus at its meeting on July 13, 2026.
The land is a portion of Block 59, Plan 41M-372, inside the Potter’s Gate subdivision. If council agrees it is no longer needed by the town, the property could be sold for housing, with another section set aside for a neighbourhood playground. Final approval from council is still needed for the playground plan.
The town says this process follows its own rules for selling property and Ontario’s Municipal Act. The move comes as Tillsonburg keeps growing quickly. It was the third fastest growing community in Canada in the 2021 Census, and Oxford County estimates the population reached 21,450 in 2025. Long-term forecasts suggest the town’s population could nearly double by 2061, driving demand for more places to live.
The Potter’s Gate subdivision was developed by Oxnard Developments Inc., which started building 110 homes there in 2019. Last October, town council already supported putting a park in the subdivision into the 2026 budget, after the developer handed over land on Beretta Street and $112,000 for park use.
Anyone who wants more details or has concerns can reach out to Cephas Panschow, the town’s Development Commissioner. Residents can also share their thoughts with council before or during the July 13 meeting. The full public notice is available on the Town of Tillsonburg website.
