A teenage boy was taken to hospital for a mental health assessment after Guelph police say he pointed a pellet gun at strangers, including a man walking near Eramosa Road and Stevenson Street North on the evening of July 4, 2026.
The Guelph Police Service said a man was walking in that area around 9:25 p.m. when he saw a male pointing a firearm his way. The two did not know each other. After the victim called police, investigators put out a public appeal for help identifying the suspect.
Tips from the public led officers to a Guelph teen, who was arrested at gunpoint. Police seized a black pellet gun that resembled a Glock handgun. The young person was then taken to hospital for a mental health assessment.
Police also received a second report over the same weekend about someone pointing a handgun at houses and passing cars in the same neighbourhood. Both cases are believed to involve the same teen.
