Steinbach City Council is set to review a plan to rezone land for a new housing development and hear a request from a local golf club about tax receipts when it meets Tuesday evening. The regular meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. today, July 7, 2026, at City Hall on Reimer Avenue, with three public hearings also on the agenda.
Council will take a first look at Rezoning By-Law 2283 for William’s Creek Phase 1. If approved, the change would open property for fresh residential construction in the city. The request comes as Steinbach continues to see housing growth, with close to $15 million in building permits issued in the first three months of 2026.
The Steinbach Fly-In Golf Club will ask council to allow the city to issue charitable tax receipts for donations made to the club. Manitoba municipalities can provide official donation receipts for income tax purposes, though they are not required to do so.
Three public hearings are scheduled during the meeting. The first deals with a variance request for 80 and 81 Lund Road, where applicant Martin Bunk wants permission to build a three-storey multi-family development. Current zoning limits the height to two storeys. The second hearing covers a proposal from Maplewood Manor Inc. to add an assisted living facility on Hospital Street by combining several properties and expanding its existing site on Loewen Boulevard. The third concerns an electronic message sign proposed for 333 Main Street, the home of Steinbach Credit Union. All electronic message board signs require a conditional use permit under the city’s updated zoning bylaw.
