Quispamsis drivers should plan extra travel time this week as road construction ramps up on five streets across town. The work, part of the 2026 Street Capital Upgrades program, will pave and grade Rivercrest Drive, Antler Crescent, Jenkins Drive, and Elliot Road, while Cambridge Avenue will see storm sewer installation.
The town’s latest notice says crews will be active from July 6 to 12, with flag persons on site to guide traffic through work zones. Motorists are warned to expect delays, though at least one lane will stay open wherever possible.
This summer’s $2.19-million contract was awarded to Galbraith Construction Ltd., a Saint John-based company that has handled the town’s street upgrades before. The overall program covers 10 streets and started in early June. Work is expected to last until late August or early September, with a goal of finishing before students head back to school.
Among the larger projects, Cambridge Avenue will see about 550 metres of road rebuilt and new sidewalks added. Elliot Road, a key truck route, is being upgraded in stages; this year’s section runs from the Route 1 overpass to Corduroy Road. Rivercrest Drive, Antler Crescent, and Jenkins Drive will all get fresh pavement and grading.
Town Engineer Mark Morrison has said streets are chosen each year based on road ratings that pinpoint where rehabilitation is needed most. The 2026 upgrades are part of a broader push, with the town’s $20.4 million capital budget setting aside more than $12 million for roads and streets.
