Environment Canada has extended an orange heat warning for Steinbach and the R.M. of Hanover as dangerously hot conditions continue through Monday, July 13, 2026. Daytime highs are forecast to hit 35°C, but high humidity will make it feel like the mid-40s.
The warning covers Steinbach, Niverville, and Grunthal. At 2:00 p.m. Monday, the temperature at nearby Kleefeld had already reached 32.6°C, with a humidex of 43. Overnight lows are not expected to drop below 16°C, offering little relief and meeting the official definition of a heat wave.
Environment Canada warns that humidex values reaching 45 will continue. The multi-day heat event, which began Friday, has already broken records. On Sunday, Kleefeld tied its all-time high of 34.4°C, a mark set in 1969.
Manitoba Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care has issued a province-wide advisory, reminding people that heat stroke is a medical emergency. Signs include red and hot skin, dizziness, nausea, and confusion. Anyone with these symptoms should call 911 immediately. Heat exhaustion can cause headache, nausea, dizziness, thirst, dark urine, and intense fatigue.
Residents are urged to drink plenty of water, avoid strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours, and check on vulnerable neighbours such as seniors and those living alone. The extreme heat has already forced event cancellations in other parts of southern Manitoba, including a Rainbow Stage performance in Winnipeg.
