Brantford, Ontario, is sweating through its second heat wave of the summer as Environment Canada issued a yellow heat warning for the city and the County of Brant, effective Monday, July 13, 2026.
The warning calls for daytime highs between 30 and 37 degrees Celsius, with overnight lows only dipping to 20 to 24 degrees. Humidex values could reach 38 to 45, making it feel much hotter than the thermometer shows. The historical average high for July in Brantford is 27 degrees, meaning current temperatures are about 5 to 8 degrees above normal.
Tuesday, July 14, is expected to be the peak of the heat event, with temperatures climbing to around 35 degrees and a humidex making it feel like 42.
The UV index is forecast to hit 9 on Monday and 10 on Tuesday, both considered very high, so sun protection is a must. Hot and humid conditions could also push the Air Quality Health Index toward the high-risk category, with wildfire smoke from Quebec affecting parts of Ontario.
In response, Grand Erie Public Health’s Medical Officer of Health has issued a heat alert for the region. The City of Brantford has opened several cooling stations, including public libraries, Lynden Park Mall, and the Wayne Gretzky Sports Centre, along with splash pads running from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
The heat warning is expected to end either Wednesday evening or Thursday evening, with temperatures cooling slightly to around 28 to 32 degrees by mid-week.
