Amherst residents can expect a mainly sunny and warm start to the week, with temperatures climbing well into the mid-20s before periods of rain arrive Wednesday and stick around through Thursday, according to Environment Canada.
Monday will see mainly sunny skies and a high of 23°C, with a UV index of 7, which is considered high. Tuesday will be one of the warmest days, reaching 26°C under mainly sunny conditions and a humidex of 28. The UV index will climb to 8, or very high, so anyone spending time outside should take precautions.
With that very high UV index on Tuesday, Environment Canada recommends avoiding too much time in the sun, especially between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Wearing UV-blocking sunglasses, staying in the shade, and reapplying sunscreen every two hours are all advised, according to Environment Canada’s sun safety guidelines.
The sunny stretch will give way to periods of rain on Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday’s high is forecast at 23°C, with an overnight low of 19°C, while Thursday will see a high of 22°C. No weather alerts are in effect, and the rain is in line with typical July patterns. Amherst normally sees about 78mm of rain during the month.
Monday morning started with a temperature of 18.7°C at the Nappan AAFC station, with southwest winds gusting to 34 km/h and humidity at 64%. The rising pressure reading of 100.7 kPa points to stable conditions ahead of the mid-week change.
