St. Paul Minor Hockey is putting out the call for coaches ahead of the 2026-27 season, with applications due by September 2. The volunteer-led group in St. Paul, Alberta, relies on community members to step up and guide young players both on and off the ice.
Those interested can apply through a Google Form on the St. Paul Minor Hockey website. The organization says no previous coaching experience is required, and it will support volunteers through the certification process.
All minor hockey coaches in Alberta must complete training set by Hockey Alberta, including the National Coach Certification Program, The Shift Forward (which replaces Respect in Sport for new coaches), and safety courses. The deadline to finish that training is November 15, giving new coaches time to get certified after they apply.
The coaching drive comes after a busy year for the association, which hosted the 2026 U15 ‘A’ Hockey Alberta Provincial Championships in March. The event brought teams to the Clancy Richard Arena and Cap Arena, highlighting the group’s ability to organize big events even with a small volunteer base.
St. Paul Minor Hockey is operated entirely by volunteers and supported by local sponsors like Coop, Lakeland Fire & Safety, and St. Paul Dodge. Leaders say that without people willing to give their time, youth hockey wouldn’t exist in the community of roughly 6,000 people.
