The City of Steinbach needs a seasonal part-time worker to help keep the T.G. Smith Arena running through the winter. The arena labourer job is about 20 hours a week until April and includes cleaning, assisting with ice maintenance, and dealing with the public.
The city says it wants someone mature, reliable, and independent, and able to work evenings and weekends. Duties include janitorial work, helping look after the ice, and public relations. The job posting is listed as #2026-20 on the City of Steinbach careers page.
Applications need to go to the city’s Human Resources Department at 225 Reimer Avenue or by email at [email protected]. There is no closing date listed, and the posting says it is open until the position is filled.
The T.G. Smith Arena is a busy spot in Steinbach, a city of roughly 20,100 people in southeastern Manitoba. The arena staff start making ice in August so that local hockey teams and skaters can use it later that month. Mike Pries, the city’s senior arena and parks maintenance manager, has been with the city for 15 years and oversees that work.
The hiring comes at a time when hundreds of jobs are available in the area. The Steinbach Chamber of Commerce notes more than 200 positions are open in and around the city right now. Manitoba’s southeast region saw employment rise by 1.3% in January 2026 and the unemployment rate drop to 5.5%.
