Beausejour and the Rural Municipality of Brokenhead are under a heat warning from Environment Canada, with humidex values expected to reach 38 to 41 this week. The warning was issued early Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at 4:23 a.m. CDT, and covers the area including Garson.
The hot and humid conditions are forecast to last for several days. Tuesday’s high is 31 degrees Celsius with a humidex of 41, while Wednesday is expected to bring a high of 34 degrees Celsius and a humidex of 43. Overnight lows will only drop to the upper teens, providing little relief from the heat.
The Town of Beausejour, within the RM of Brokenhead, has a large population of seniors — 27 per cent of residents are aged 65 and over, according to the 2021 Census — which puts many residents at greater risk during extreme heat. Environment Canada and Manitoba Health urge everyone to take precautions: drink plenty of water, stay in cool places, and check on older family members, friends, and neighbours.
Heat stroke is a medical emergency. Signs include red and hot skin, dizziness, nausea, confusion, and change in consciousness. If someone shows these symptoms, call 9-1-1 right away. People at highest risk include older adults, infants and young children, pregnant people, those with chronic conditions like heart or lung problems, anyone working or exercising outdoors, people experiencing homelessness, those with mobility issues, and those experiencing confusion or altered mental status.
