The skatepark at 50 Avenue and 47 Street in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, got five new features on July 28, 2026, making it easier for beginners to ride. The additions come from the City of Wetaskiwin’s Reimagining Wetaskiwin Play Spaces Initiative after residents said the park was too tough for new skaters.
The new pieces include The Sofa, a low-profile seat perfect for building confidence or taking a break, and The Old Skool Bench, which can be used for tricks or just hanging out. There is also The Arc Rail for curved grinding, The Old Skool Rail for classic grinds, and The Y Rail, which lets riders come at it from different angles. The features are part of the Canadian Ramp Company Pro-Ops line, designed by pro skaters to be beginner-friendly.
The city placed the new equipment away from the main bowl to give newcomers their own space. The benches and sofa double as seating, creating a spot where youth can gather. The roughly 10,000-square-foot park, originally designed by New Line Skateparks, sits across from Wetaskiwin Composite High School and near other recreation spots like the Manluk Centre.
These upgrades are part of the Reimagining Wetaskiwin Play Spaces Initiative, which also looks at fixing up basketball courts and other facilities. The project follows the Canada Day opening of the Manluk Spray Park and Playground on July 1, 2026, showing the city’s ongoing focus on local recreation.
