The City of Dauphin is looking for consultants to dream up a fresh look for a key south-end gateway, issuing a call for proposals to transform the corner of Main Street South and Whitmore Avenue West into a welcoming landmark for visitors and locals alike.
The request for proposals, issued July 20, seeks qualified landscape architects, urban designers or other firms to develop a long-term conceptual design for what the city calls the South End Destination Site. The deadline for submissions is noon on August 10, 2026.
The site already features the iconic 16-foot Amisk the Beaver monument, a city entrance sign, three flagpoles, mature trees and garden beds, plus a former reservoir area that has been turned into open green space. The city has set aside up to $15,000 for the concept design work.
The vision is to create a distinctive tourism stop and photo-friendly gathering space that fits with Tourism Dauphin’s “Adventure From Here On Out” brand and shows off Dauphin’s identity as a hub for culture, recreation, agriculture and outdoor adventure. Proposals are also encouraged to include Indigenous cultural touches, such as storytelling, art or language, where they make sense.
The project runs alongside the city’s separate Craft District Initiative, a downtown revitalization effort whose first-phase construction bids close August 5.
