The Southwest Nova Major Crime Unit is again asking the public for help in solving the homicide of Terry Izzard, whose body was found after a fire at his Upper Big Tracadie home in Antigonish County on May 31, 2026.
The Nova Scotia Medical Examiner Service ruled the 42-year-old’s death a homicide on June 2. Investigators believe his death is linked to four other suspicious fires set across Antigonish and Guysborough counties that same night.
Those fires included a second blaze on Highway 16 in Upper Big Tracadie, an apartment fire at The Manor on Tower Road in Mulgrave that sent some residents to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and two fires on Havre Boucher Road. Nobody else died in the other fires.
Nearly two months later, no arrests have been made. Police are now focused on finding a silver 2010 Hyundai Accent with a temporary permit that was seen speeding in the Tower Road area of Mulgrave between 8:50 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on May 31.
Investigators have already seized a black 2014 Chevrolet Sonic with pink spray paint that had been sought in the case. They have also executed several search warrants, including a tactical raid on a property on Summerside Road in Heatherton in early June.
RCMP have said the homicide and fires were targeted, and that Izzard’s death is not connected to the May 21 homicide of John Pettipas in West Arm Tracadie. Izzard had also survived a fire at his home on April 18 that destroyed much of the house.
Anyone with dashcam or video footage, or who saw the silver Hyundai Accent, is asked to contact the Southwest Nova Major Crime Unit or Crime Stoppers.
