Barrie Police arrested a Shelburne man on July 26, 2026, and seized a loaded firearm, drugs, and a dagger-style knife during a traffic stop on Mulcaster Street in downtown Barrie, Ontario. The 29-year-old now faces 16 charges, including multiple firearms and drug offences, after officers responded to complaints about motorcycles disturbing residents on Dunlop Street East.
Police were called to the area for reports of motorcycles causing a disturbance. When officers checked the driver’s information, they learned his licence was suspended and pulled him over. During the stop, police found the loaded gun, drugs, and the knife.
The charges include driving with a suspended licence, unauthorized possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, careless storage of a firearm, and possession of a prohibited firearm. He is also charged with possession of a controlled substance, having cannabis readily available in a vehicle, possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and having a firearm with an altered serial number. Additionally, he faces charges for violating a weapons prohibition order and two counts of failing to follow previous release orders.
The motorcycle was towed from the scene, and the man was held in custody for a bail hearing. The Barrie Police Service says the investigation is ongoing under case number BA26047625.
Dunlop Street East has been the scene of several serious incidents this year, including a stabbing in March and a shooting in April that led to three arrests and the seizure of a .40-calibre handgun. Despite these events, the Barrie Police Service reported a 33 per cent drop in community-reported harm across the city from January to May 2026 compared to the same period in 2024. Officers laid 3,232 charges against 1,100 people during that time.
