Owen Sound Police arrested a 24-year-old man on July 27, 2026, after he allegedly struck a marked cruiser and drove onto a sidewalk, nearly hitting pedestrians, before fleeing the scene the previous day. The suspect, Kurtis Miller of Owen Sound, was already on bail facing drug and weapons charges and was wearing a court-ordered GPS ankle monitor at the time of the incident.
Police say they located Miller operating a pickup truck around 4:50 p.m. on July 26, 2026, and attempted to arrest him for allegedly breaching multiple release conditions. Miller resisted officers, started the truck, and fled, striking a police cruiser and narrowly missing officers in the process.
He then drove the truck onto a sidewalk, forcing several pedestrians to dodge out of the way. Among them were a young woman and a family with a child in a stroller. No one was physically hurt, but the incident put lives at risk in a busy area of the city.
During the search for Miller, police learned that he had deliberately removed and thrown away the ankle monitor he was required to wear as part of his bail conditions. Officers later found the pickup truck abandoned.
With help from the Ontario Provincial Police, including a K9 unit and aviation resources, officers tracked down Miller after he allegedly tried to break into an occupied home. He was taken into custody on July 27 and now faces a list of Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act charges.
Because of the danger he is considered to pose to the community, Miller has been referred to the Intensive Serious Violent Crime Bail Program. He has a prior criminal history, including charges from August 2024 for aggravated assault, robbery, and drug and weapons offences.
The Owen Sound Police Service is continuing its investigation.
